The Wisdom of the Heart

Heart, be thou silent. I will bear your sighing no more.
The time has come for me to quiet you and show this Feeling to the door.
It was never my intention to let her in with such ease,
But Love has always been a crafty one, living to deceive.

She paints a picture, splendid, rare,
And fills you with butterflies and smiles;

I knew I should not trust her,
But you fell so easily to her wiles.

Heart, stop thy singing. Hope is not yours this time,
She has tricked us once again, and I'll no longer let her dine.
Love and Hope are fickle friends if Wisdom is not your name,
And they have beaten us once again in this horrid chess-like game.

Don't worry, Heart, for in some season,
When Wise we have become,
Love and Hope will entertain us,
And we will be as One.

Divided Heart

This treacherous Friend of mine is like a cancer;
Slowly, and sometimes without my knowledge, she eats away at me.
She does not belong here, for she has been dismissed,
But my faithful Enemy will not leave my side.

Carefully, she breeds in me that which I do not want -
Something which could destroy everything.
If she'd just go away, I'd have a chance to move on,
But my faithful Enemy will not leave my side.

She is the smile on my lips when he smiles at me;
She's the one who makes me laugh when he walks away.
I've asked her to let me go, time and again,
But Hope will not leave my heart.

Enemies

my heart sings within me,
a happy and sad Tune
of Lullabies and Wishes
and Dreams that won't come true.

fatal Hope sings the loudest,
kind Doubt would come next -
I try to silence both of them,
but I always fail the test.

Hope seems my Enemy
so I choose to fight with her,
but when I look into her eyes
I realize I need her.

next I try to conquer Doubt,
but he's a giant looming tall;
I grab my sling and five small stones then want him after all.

I would not have to silence Doubt
if I could help Hope sing,
but Doubt has me afraid to fall, afraid to spread my wings.

I'll have to choose to leave them there
till this becomes more clear,
till all my dreams are shattered
or I've overcome my fear.

The Boy

A boy of sad and thoughtful face once spoke to me of life.
In his eyes was the sorrow of the world, but in his voice, its joy.
His words, though dark, were soothing to my spirit;
His laugh, though bitter, reminded me of an angel's.

His poet's hand had written many a dark and dreary verse,
Yet when he spoke of Love, you'd think he'd always been her friend.

His heart so filled with anger, so with hate about to burst
Also contained the purest of treasures - the kind only dreamt of.
A love ready to overflow, if only it were accepted,
Yet he thought no one wanted it, so kept it caref'lly hidden.

I saw, in his eyes, what so few had ever seen
A kindness he felt he could not show, for the world had made him mean.
I tried to draw it out but in the end, could not succeed
For he already too far gone to be brought about by me

He lost himself to his loneliness
And no one could see why
Yet I saw the truth in his eyes
But a night before he died

I'll always love that bitter angel,
Cursed to die a lonely death -
When someone chose to love him
That was when he ended it

Perhaps if I had shown him
If I'd only let him know
He would have seen it through himself
Through that almost hid window

For through this crack, I had truly seen
What no one ever saw
A man just as fragile as any
But without a way back home

For if he felt he had a chance
Surely he would not have done
What broke my heart that dreary night
What left me all alone.
